Discover Sailing at Spinnaker Sailing Club

On Monday 6th May we will be holding an Open Day to show the local community what goes on at Spinnaker Sailing Club, give people to try sailing free of charge and find out more about us!

You can see more information, and sign up for the taster slots here!

Please do spread the word about this day as we'd love to see as many people as possible at the club, and this includes our current members! Please do come on down on Monday, enjoy your club, and help us show what it offers to our visitors.

Fish & Chips - Wednesday 8th May

Wednesday 8th May sees our first race evening with fish and chips this year! We will run our normal programme of racing, with a handicap race at 5.45pm, followed by a pursuit racing finishing at 8pm. We would love to see as many of our members join us on the water. Our food will then be collected and returned to the club for 8.30pm, with the bar open for drinks.

Fish and chips must be pre-ordered by 1200 on Wednesday 8th May, and an email will be sent on Monday with a booking link.

RYA Training

Don't forget we have a range of RYA Training courses running during May Half Term including an RYA Stage 1 & 2, and RYA Stage 3 & 4 courses for dinghy sailing! You can see all the details and book on our website calendar here.

Firefly Update

Over the last week James has spent a lot of time driving between our club and Ksail at Stockbridge, as he brought the first 4 of our new flight of fireflys on site!

These boats have had an extensive overhaul, and are now ready for use, with 2 more due to arrive in the next few weeks to complete our second flight! These boats will help us make team racing even more accessible, with exciting plans for this winter, and mean 12 boats are available to hire for the Twisted Tube, the premier random pairs team racing event in the country!

We owe a big thankyou to Ksail for all their work and support in this project.

Club Improvements

Last week our new patios, creating an improved picnic area at the north of our site were completed, and we think they look very smart. Meanwhile, in our new bar area the painting has now been completed and over the next few days the final finishing touches will be made to this area.

Next week our staff team will be starting the work to prepare our new equipment store which has taken the place of our old rear galley.

Class Captain's Race Training

Sunday 5th May sees our second single-handed training session, and building on our last "starting" session will practice our upwind skills and rounding the windward mark. We start with a briefing at 10:00 and will then go on the water for some exercises before adding in our starting skills for a couple of very short races. We have roughly 90 minutes on the water followed by coffee and cake and a short debrief - and then afternoon racing to demonstrate our skills.

Please book your space here.
